ARTservancy began in September of 2018 and has grown to include four major Land Conservancy partnerships including Restoring Lands, the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory, Tall Pines Conservancy and the Milwaukee Area Land Conservancy; and we are growing!

ARTservancy encourages collaborations with community partners to highlight land conservancy efforts while creating art in natural spaces, shining a light on the beauty and importance of our natural resources. ARTservancy pairs artists with nature preserves to advance the visionary work of artists and conservationists. ​

Artist Residents create a body of artwork inspired by their chosen property for the period of one year. Some locations can be primitive. The following year artists will participate in a 2 month curated exhibit of their work at Gallery 224. An artist reception is featured with each exhibit. Programming is offered throughout the artist's residency year, including ongoing blog featuring the artist on A Wealth of Nature, on-site tours, performances, workshops and artist talks during open receptions.

A small stipend and workshop fees are paid to those selected to the program.

Selected Artists in Residence will be announced in October of 2025.  We will meet four times throughout the program to connect and see what you are working on, with our first meeting in November, 2025.  During 2026, Artists will be visiting their Land Partner’s site location and developing a body of work that will exhibit at Gallery 224 in 2027. 

If you are interested in being considered for a one-year residency, please submit the following application. Along with your application we will need you to send 5 images of your artwork to programs@gallery224.org, a short artist bio with 150 words max, CV or resume.  Your application will be reviewed once we receive the final materials and your application fee of $40.
